Welcome to the place where your two bloggers ask each other one question each week. We hope you enjoy them as your learn a bit more about us – sometimes we even learn more about each other!
Ray’s question to Karen:
Q: In our family, cooking together is often a social event and that tradition goes back many generations! Do you have a particular favorite memory or two of cooking together with Tom or of the two of you with your children or perhaps one from one of our extended family events?
A: I would say homemade pasta is the most fun family cooking event. Absolutely everyone gets involved in some capacity even if just to comment on the wall of flour that has become breached by the egg. It’s impossible to sit idly by!
Karen’s Question to Ray:
Q: Speaking of family cooking. Do you have a favorite dish made by “The Dessert Crew”?
A: For those of you that don’t know, Karen and I are the dessert crew. Shortly after she got married to my brother, we started a tradition of teaming up to make a new dessert or two together each Thanksgiving. One of our earliest desserts was a coffee toffee pecan pie. I love pecan pie, and while it was good, that particular recipe was a bit too sweet for me. Much to my surprise our nephew Zack, who isn’t a huge fan of sweets, fell in love with that pie! He asks for it just about every year, so it holds a special place in my heart.
My absolute favorite to date though, and this one goes back many years, is still the Brown Butter Pumpkin Layer Cake that was featured in Fine Cooking Magazine. The cake was delicious, but there was something about that brown butter frosting that was so amazing and addicting. I haven’t had it since, but I can still taste it to this day!
