Wednesday Q&A – 3/2/22

Ray’s question to Karen:

Q: I was recently thinking about one of our family vacations to the Outer Banks, which seems so long ago now! On our first trip there, I remember we discovered that we both like Conch fritters, so we shared an appetizer of them. Have you ever cooked anything using Conch? If you haven’t, I’m not sure you could try now even if you wanted to – it is my understanding that they are now endangered in the United States and are currently banned from commercial harvesting.

A: I have not cooked conch! The only other times I’ve eaten it have been on beach trips to Hilton Head. It’s sad to hear it is no longer going to be available, but props for responsible fishing practices.

Karen’s Question to Ray:

Q: The conch fritters were amazing. Do you have any other memorable “first foods” that you’ve tried while on vacation?

A: I remember a seafood restaurant in Virginia, near Norfolk, where I first tried king crab legs. I had had snow crab before which is enjoyable, but a lot of effort for a little bit of reward. The king crab was a lot easier to remove from the shell and twice as delicious! It became a new favorite for me on that trip and I still love it to this day,
