Welcome to the place where your two bloggers ask each other one question each week. We hope you enjoy them as your learn a bit more about us – sometimes we even learn more about each other!
Ray’s question to Karen:
Q: Do you have a favorite classic TV chef?
A: Classic is probably the key word here, no? When I think of classic TV I think of the era of Bewitched and The Brady Bunch, but through much of this period, I didn’t live in this country. I missed out on most of the chefs that were on TV during that particular time frame. So I will broaden my definition and choose Jacques Pepin. Although usually I view more recent videos featuring him on YouTube, I always feel like I’ve learned something useful that I will take with me. That being said, he’s fast. He talks fast and he cooks fast, so this whole exercise involves a few rewinds.
Karen’s Question to Ray:
Q: Turn about is fair play. Who is your favorite classic TV chef? I think I know the answer.
A: Yes, I’m sure you do! If you guessed Julia Child, then you were right. I remember watching her first as a child. She was most humorous for a kid to watch with the way she rather recklessly made her way around that kitchen! As an adult, I came to appreciate her style even more because I realized just how much she loved her craft and that she didn’t let kitchen disasters get to her, she simply rolled on and enjoyed the whole process.
I’m sure you knew this, but she and Jacques Pepin were very good friends and even did a show together at one time – I am also a fan of his work.
